Cougars ‘A’ U7s Newsletter W/c: 19th November 2007

Managers Log …

Apologies for the delay in following-up October’s initial newsletter but in all honesty there has been very little to update you on (except for how good the boys have been doing). However we are now approaching the mid season break so it may be an idea to touch on a few subjects which will come to the fore in the near future …..

Sponsorship

As previously discussed, we were successful in our application for approximately £450 worth of football kit (hurricane jackets, sports holdalls etc) from the Royal Mail Sports Foundation fund and these items should be with us shortly. They did inform me that there was a 6/8 week delivery lead time so all being well they should be with us before the end of this month (November).

Training

We have managed to arrange - via the FA’s Sports Foundation initiative - for some soccer skills coaching during the latter half of January. This will mean that some gentleman who is properly qualified to show 6 and 7 year olds how to play football will turn up and take over our training sessions for a 3 week period (hooray!). The only problem is that this guy can only run this workshop on a Thursday evening so we have arranged to swap over with ‘B’ team during this period with their training moving to our slot on a Monday. Hopefully this will not inconvenience too many people. When I have some more details I will let you know accordingly.

Quiz Night

A Cougars quiz night has been confirmed for Saturday 19th January 2008. The venue will be Kingswood School, Settle Road, Harold Hill. Tickets are priced at £5 each with 8 tickets making up a table. More details will follow once I have attended the next managers meeting on the 3rd of December. We need to cover at least one table (I’m sure we will) but if we don’t sell at least the minimum amount of tickets we will be fined the same amount anyway so if you’ve got a passion for trivia put a date in your (brand new) diary.

Christmas Raffle

I have now received most of the raffle ticket monies and ‘stubbs’ back from everybody but there appears to be a couple outstanding. I really need these to be returned (either sold or unsold) to me by training on Monday 3rd December as I have to return them to the club for the actual draw at the Manager’s meeting held later on that same evening. As a reminder the prizes are as follows:

1. Hamper
2. 12 Luxury Christmas Crackers
3. £20 Sports Voucher
4. A bottle of Whiskey
5. A bottle of White Wine
6. A bottle of Red Wine
7. Beer
8. Lager
9. Chocolates
10. Cuddly Toy (good game good game!)
11. Plus consolation prizes

Dinner & Dance

If you weren’t already aware Cougars traditionally hold a Dinner and Dance annually to raise funds for the club and this season will be no exception with an event scheduled at the Top Meadow Golf Club, Bulphan on Saturday 8th March 2008. Tickets are provisionally priced at £35 per person and I will provide more information when available. Last waltz anybody?

Website

And finally as you are now probably aware the Club is now in possession of a very impressive website where upon you can read about our exploits amongst other things and smile smugly at our lofty position in the league. The address is www.haroldwoodcougarsjfc.co.uk (select the U7 ‘A’ site). Just slip on your smoking jacket, pull on your slippers and enjoy!

That’s it. I hope I’ve covered off most of the salient points but if not I’m sure I’ll catch up with you over the coming weeks.

Hope alls well.

Would moving kids' football to a summer game help improve the development of young footballers?
Yes - better pitches mean a better chance to develop technique/skills
No - wouldn't make any real difference to development
Maybe - but I'd be worried about more injuries on firm pitches
